All levels of government levy a tax upon its citizens in order to pay for its services. A tax can take many forms, including a tax on income, property or sales. There are also taxes levied on transfers of wealth either by gift or inheritance. Each citizen is expected to comply with the tax laws and pay what they owe, but should not pay more than their fair share. The federal tax code is one of the largest and most complex areas of the law, yet it affects every one of us.
