On a bright Saturday morning a group of lawyers and staff from our firm met to help do some spring cleaning for Ms. June*, a wonderful 90 year old woman who is still able to live independently in her home. The twelve of us cleaned out gutters, raked leaves, swept, dusted and cleaned the interior and exterior of the house. We were particularly proud to weed her flower bed and put new flowers and mulch in them.
We had as much fun doing the work as Ms. June did watching us. Andrew Shelor, who spearheaded this project with the assistance of Washington Regional Medical Center Foundation Faith In Action, said “Being able to work with our hands to help someone is a fun break from the office. It is great that we have so many people in our firm that are willing to give up a Saturday morning to help someone that truly needs the help. I don’t know who enjoyed it more—us or her. We want to come back and check on her every chance that we get.”
Victoria Bruton, who spent most of her time with Ms. June inside the house, said, “There is nothing in the world that makes you feel better than helping someone like Ms. June. She is a special lady.”
