An analysis of government data released this summer shows that more than 28,000 companies representing more than 200,000 trucks are currently operating in violation of federal safety laws. The violations include defective brakes, bad tires, loads that exceed weight limits and drivers with little or no training and have drug or alcohol dependency. The data was obtained from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and included over a million lines of data analysis. West Virginia, North Dakota, Nebraska, Vermont and Iowa had the highest rate of companies in violaiton of federal safety requirements.
